...Shapiro's Groove Tube 2 satirizes by rendering the subliminal visible, by making graphic the fears and the personal and institutional dishonesty which everywhere stultify the day-to-day process of living. If the above joke seems in bad taste, it is because Nixon and the war are, themselves, obscene. What Shapiro lacks in propriety, he attempts to make up in truthfulness.
