These fragments, hastily executed in pencil, brush, pen, or water-color, present the most graphic pictorial record of the Yankee in France that we remember to have seen. It is of slight importance that, in such drawings as "Home" and "Her Boy Too", we can trace plainly the Style of Poulbot: or that the wash drawings entitled, "The Gardener's Cottage", "Toul Sector Days", and "The Town of Cuffles", remind us forcibly of Bruce Bairnsfather. ...competition, open to all citizens of the United States, in the making of patriotic posters and advertisements to stimulate the buying of War Savings Stamps has been announced by the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Prizes totalling $2,000 will be given for six best drawings, and there is to be an exhibition of 100 or more selected entries. The competition will close on April 25. The style suffers a little in places from the sort of poeticizing that marred Oscar Wilde's "Poems in Prose," but is one the whole graphic and full of sensuous charm.
