...Occasionally these stoned tableaux are lightened by intrusions of real-world comedy: the visit of a Yellow Pages ad salesman to a stoned Blake; the door-to-door missionary zeal of two young Mormons. Ricky Jay provides a few moments of irrelevant coherence with his story of a magician named Chung Ling Su. But these interludes can't bring Last Days to life. The film is so studied and self-conscious that the audience can never concentrate on Blake; it can only watch the camera watching...

...NATALIE PORTMAN is anticipating a range of responses to her spare new hairdo. "Some people will think I'm a neo-Nazi," the Garden State star suspects, "or that I have cancer or I'm a lesbian." We would also like to warn her of a probable "Hey, Sinéad!" faction. You see, this isn't like Britney Spears going brunet. Portman, the exotically coiffed Padmé Amidala in Star Wars: Episode III--Revenge of the Sith, allowed her petite pate to be shaved on camera in Berlin last week, a process she describes as "really exciting." ...currently unbearable load on the UC’s top executives. The redefinition of the role of UC vice president as head of both a new UC standing rules and reform committee and a new UC-student group forum is also a positive step in light of the ad hoc responsibilities VPs have held thus far. Requiring the Harvard Concert Commission to report to the CLC is a step we have called for in the past—accountability must go hand-in-hand with responsibility. And though we endorsed a split ticket for UC president and vice president this...

...system are clear. No longer will a technologically clueless student have to figure out how to set up groups in Pine, Webmail, or whatever other e-mail client he or she may use. No longer will we forget to send something to someone, leaving them off of an ad hoc e-mail list. No longer will communicating be unreasonably difficult if a student group is unofficial or trying to get off the ground and gain official status. Everything is now in one nice, easy package. A student simply goes to the HCS webpage (www.hcs.harvard.edu) and clicks...

...movies at the Loews Theatre in Harvard Square seem to change quite rarely, the posters that adorn the theater’s façade change even less. These posters, one of Marilyn Monroe, and one an ad for Casablanca, are part of a mural which decorates the entire front of the theater. It was done by Joshua Winer, a 1986 graduate of Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, the top while he was still a student here, the bottom, several years later. If you look up, above the ticket window and the marquee, you will see what...
