...general overview at the federation's website, inffni.org, which features links to naturist tour operators around the world, plus a program of activities (everything from nude swimming galas to p?tanque tournaments). You can even buy wine that has been made by vintners and grape pickers who are "all committed naturists." What better way is there to toast one of the hottest trends in travel...

...academy is the brainchild of Roberto Wirth, a passionate wine buff and owner of the luxe Hassler Villa Medici Hotel above Piazza di Spagna. Over an appropriately bibulous lunch with two friends?the wine writer Hugh Johnson and Steven Spurrier, founder of the Acad?mie du Vin in Paris (now closed) and Tokyo?Wirth realized "that there was nothing of this kind in Italy and it was the perfect moment and the perfect place to carry out such a project." He found the perfect property in the palazzetto, an abandoned four-story private mansion abutting the Spanish Steps with a second...

...Wine Academy is snobbery-free; Wirth believes that wine is a pleasure, and he wants to share the joy. A guided tasting with sommeliers Andrea Sturniolo or Ian Domenico D'Agata is vastly entertaining and full of great tips (Aglianico grapes make Italy's best affordable, high-quality reds; 1998 was a very good year for Chianti, but not for its pricey neighbor in Montalcino?for a Brunello, choose a '97 or a '99). On the east side of the lake, must visits and buys include the wineries Silver Thread (the area's only organic producer), Standing Stone and Red Newt...

...glacier-scarred landscape of the Finger Lakes region in northwestern New York is a great place to hike, ski, fish and swim. It's also the source of a number of excellent wines to quench your thirst. The sloping terrain and complex soil are hospitable to more than 80 wineries, many of which have sprung up in the past decade. And the growing wine culture has spawned quite a few decent dining possibilities. You may even find the region reminiscent of the budding Napa Valley of the late 1970s...
