...Beachcomber was made in France and England to launch Laughton's new producing partnership with Producer-Director Erich Pommer. Laughton's performance ranks with his Captain Bligh and his Henry VIII. The script, by Bartlett Cormack, is suave enough to make the implications of its story acceptable to U. S. censors. Good shot: the beginning of a profound change in the relationship of Ginger Ted and the lady missionary- when she removes a splinter from...
Since most radio programs use prepared scripts, radio performers need nothing so much as the ability to read aloud. But programs like General Foods Corp.'s We, the People, in which the audience participates, run into special script troubles: the program's cross section includes people with poor eyesight, some illiterates. Even under the strain of broadcasting she could not keep...

Bob, Son of Battle, has become an incidental character who manages, much to the audience's disappointment, to win the sheep-herding cup from McAdam's Black (not Red) Wull. David Moore has been transformed into a handsome young cavelier who wins the heart of McAdam's pretty daughter (his son has also been discarded) as well as the coveted cup. At times Will Fyffe's characterization of the vicious drunkard is superlative, but at other times--notably when he hands the precious cup over...

Again, in the summer of 1937. when the Group existed in name only-its leading actors and its one remaining director were all in Hollywood-Odets came through with the script of Golden Boy, and like a Pied Piper led everybody back to Broadway...
