What comes out of Singh's mouth is sometimes far too understandable. Two years ago, he said bluntly that LPGA superstar Annika Sorenstam didn't "belong out there" with the men at the Colonial tournament in Fort Worth, Texas. "He's just not a diplomat," says golfer Joey Sindelar, who has known Singh for almost 20 years. "And so what?" Singh isn't looking for a mulligan either. "It was kind of blown out of proportion," he says. "Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. What's done is done." He enhanced his two-strokes-over-cranky persona when...

...deal. Annika Sorenstam has notched 59 LPGA tournament victories in her 11-year career, including five in a row since last November. Sure, the men's tour has its rivalries, but the LPGA's greatest player ever is still in her prime. And she's enjoying...

Sorenstam spent Easter Sunday taking a swim. The Swede celebrated victory at the Kraft Nabisco championship, the first LPGA major tournament of the year, by taking the traditional winner's jump into the lake just off the 18th green at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Her mother, sister and caddie all followed. Sorenstam, 34, smashed the field, winning by eight strokes. "I felt like I was in control all week," she said after drying off. "There are tournaments where I've hit the ball better, but this is as solid as I've played...

That's good news for the LPGA. Ratings and fan interest have improved but still lag behind those of the men's tour. Two years ago, everyone was talking about teen phenom Michelle Wie, but at 15 she's still struggling to find consistency. Why wait for Wie to become the "next Tiger" when Sorenstam is perhaps playing above Tiger's level now? --By Mitch Frank...

...nine men's tournaments she was invited to, she chose the Colonial because the course favors shotmakers, not ball whackers. At 7,080 yds.--with one par five that stretches 609 yds.--the Colonial is still 700 yds. longer than the typical LPGA setup. But it is also the kind of classic course Sorenstam loves, with narrow, tree-lined fairways, deep, ball-eating bunkers and small, slick greens. "Length is not the most important thing," says Colonial head pro Dow Finsterwald Jr. "This is a position golf course"--a plus for Sorenstam, one of the most accurate hitters...
