Roadside Telegrams. Motorists en route from Paris to Nice. Bordeaux or Calais can receive messages by means of huge billboards put up by Esso service stations. Telegrams are addressed to "Autogramme Paris," delivered to the highway safety division of the French Touring Club, which, in turn, relays messages to appropriate Esso stations for posting along the route. The motorist then sees his name and license number on a billboard, stops at the next station to pick up his message...
Last week the weekly trade magazine The Billboard front-paged some corroborating statistics. Three major labels, Columbia, Mercury and MGM, devoted the largest part of their summer releases to modern works, e.g., Aaron Copland's Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson, Elliott Carter's The Minotaur. With several other companies contributing, 50 contemporary compositions were released this summer. This brings the impressive total of 20th century compositions on records to some 1,500, with about 240 composers represented. By comparison, there are only 776 works represented by 48 composers of the first half of the 19th century...

Weary of begging Crooner Perry Como to plug a passel of Lucky lyrics, Floridian Luck anted up $500 of his own savings plus $350 from his real-estate man papa, bought a month's space on a huge (20 ft.-by-60 ft.) billboard near Times Square to make his plea public.
