Mona Karim, who plays Cenci's daughter, Beatrice, falls all too often into this trap. While Shelley's play is intended to be a tragedy, Karim fails to convey believable anger in her accusations. There is so little emotion in her portrayal of Beatrice that when she reveals the incest forced upon her by her father, one may be uncertain of exactly what has happened to her. Were it not for Shelley's plot summary in the opening scene, the main tension of the play might go undiscovered...

David Javerbaum, as Willy's son Biff, starts out less strongly than does O'Keefe and never seems quite settled in his character's exchanges with his brother Happy (John Ducey). But Javerbaum is most convincing when it counts, and scenes between Willy and Biff convey all the stifling agony of their relationship. Javerbaum is also especially skillful in handling Biff's striking shift from a hopeful high school football hero to a disillusioned, directionless 34-year-old who feels cheated by his father's hypocritical expectations...

"You guys, look!" she gasps on first ^ seeing their decrepit bathroom in the welfare hotel. "Privacy!" In the controversy over fact vs. fiction, real artistry can settle a lot of debates...
