...Deadly Windhood. After close inspection of films taken by a Universal Newsreel photographer it was suggested that Lowell R. Bayles crashed to death in his attempt to break the world speed record because of the collapse of a windhood of his own design. The pictures show the hood being driven into Pilot Bayles' face by the wind pressure during his power dive at the beginning of the straightaway.
