...abscessed tooth put Liz in the hospital. While she recuperated last week in California, her bright-eyed three-year-old daughter Liza Todd remained behind in London to keep up the side, dressed herself in Ptolemaic Merry Mites as if to prove that she might at least have played Cleopatra as a tot. Meanwhile with shooting at a dead stop, Lloyd's was faced with what will be the largest claim -at least $2,800,000-ever made against the insurers of a motion picture...
...number of hepatitis cases reported in the U.S. so far this year, and the year-end total is expected to fall shy only of 1954's record 50,093. Reported cases are believed to be only a fraction of the actual total; Kentucky Epidemiologist J. Clifford Todd estimates that there have been four victims in his state-with 1,628 cases, the nation's hardest hit-for every one reported. ...Alamo (Batjac; United Artists), which is the first picture ever directed by Hollywood He-Man John Wayne, is also the biggest western ever made. Released as a reserved-seat feature...

Stephen Aaron, director, has employed the apron stage with the audience ranged around three sides; and he has designed a performance that is becoming to the play and platform. Todd Lee's setting consists of levels, shapes and areas that culminate in a round peak against a glowing cyclorama; and Walter Benson's lighting plot is superb, indicating the range and richness of the electrical equipment. No doubt it will be years before the staff learns to use the full potential...
Whitehead, hoping to prevent a repetition of the rioting, banned all political meetings for the next three months. But even some of Whitehead's own supporters admitted that he had badly miscalculated the mood and temper of Southern Rhodesia's Africans. From London, ex-Prime Minister Garfield Todd demanded that Britain suspend Southern Rhodesia's constitution, send in troops to enforce a change toward more liberal government. But this appeal outraged even Todd's own Central African Party, which promptly ousted him from leadership, probably ending the political effectiveness of the one major Southern Rhodesian leader...
