Boris Alexandrovitch Solomatin, the KGB's Rome chief from 1976 to 1982, claims that Soviet intelligence viewed the Vatican as a hotbed of diplomatic secrets. Trouble was, once the KGB had recruited its St. Peter's agent, it had a little difficulty controlling him: apparently his religious convictions interfered with his supersecret political mission...
