...skeptics, I'll run through the progression of dead presidents: President Abraham Lincoln, elected in 1860, was assassinated in a theater in 1865 by John Wilkes Booth, who seemed to think he was helping the South. President James Garfield, elected in 1880, was assassinated by a not-too-sane man who would have preferred Chester Arthur as President...

BARK, BUT NO BITE INVENTOR: ROBERT FAIRALL Dogs are great theft deterrents; they also tend to smell bad and demand Richard Simmons levels of affection. The Barking Bone aims to scare away the bad guys while still keeping canine-hating homeowners sane. Fairall implanted a motion sensor inside a giant, apparently gnawed, dog bone made of solid resin. When the sensor is tripped, a sound chip emits a low growl followed by a torrent of ferocious barking...

The deserters go with us into the guerrilla zones as guides. We never rely on a single informant. We use a minimum of three unconnected sources. On some occasions there may be an exchange of gunfire when we're trying to clear out two or three of them and unfortunately innocent people get killed. This is lamentable. If you're asking me if innocents die in this war, yes, they...

Luckily our real life photographer was more sane than this, as our photo shoot later that week provided sundry pictures to choose from for the album's graphic design. We worked in a studio in the Back Bay, where we mixed fairly standard portrait shots with more adventurous movement-oriented photos. In each case, our photographer Philip Porcella fulfilled his role nicely, yelling at us the whole time: "yes, good, yes, yes, beautiful! More! More...
