...with a page of modern art by, say, Helen Frankenthaler or Richard Diebenkorn. What they have to do with eating eludes me. Worse, in each section there are color plates showing the finished dishes. Each is an artistic triumph. When I took a shot at the grilled tenderloin of pork with cognac and green peppercorn sauce, it tasted just fine, but it looked on the plate more like a Jackson Pollock than a Michael McCarty. I just couldn't get the little slices of pork to form the perfect crescent that was pictured. Still, this book is a perfect distillation...
