That, of course, is Norton's greatest feat as an actor. He's a juggernaut of emotional range and complexity with a porcelain visage. He'll kill flies, oh yes. And he'll also embarrass any actor onscreen with him who isn't as dexterous or willing to get their hands dirty. Norton, thank God, will probably never be in a movie like You've Got Mail because his intensity would just liquify all the fluff. He's like the Miranda Richardson of American cinema--too good for 99 percent of it, so we just wait patiently until he finds...
...about Hispanic gang members to documentaries on skateboarding superstars. Watching the blurry images on matchbox-size video windows within a computer screen can be annoying, but it's not all bad news. Instead of waiting for prime time, I can view any show whenever I want just by clicking onscreen. And because many episodes are commercial free and less than 10 minutes long, I can squeeze them in during quick breaks instead of carving out half an hour at night...
...FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE Step into the lush, futuristic world of Final Fantasy VIII, the latest installment of the blockbuster PlayStation series that has sold some 22 million copies worldwide. Gorgeous scenery with cinematic touches and realistic-looking characters make this epic tale of good vs. evil dazzle onscreen. Players take on the role of Squall, a military-academy student who must stop an evil sorceress from controlling the world. Along the way he battles monsters, solves puzzles and falls in love. The story line may sound familiar, but its stunning rendition is fresh...
America is rocked by social violence, and some people think Hollywood is to blame. They point to the sex and smutty talk, drug use and gun love onscreen. The moguls hide behind a rickety rating system that stokes more fury than it slakes. Church groups attack it as a sham; critics on the left complain that it eviscerates mature films. "The censors have spent all their time protecting children against adult movies," says The Nation. "They might better protect adults against childish movies...
That said, I would recommend this product only for hard-core audiophiles. The fact is, you could hook almost any stereo receiver into your PC; the PC Home Theater is just supposed to simplify the process through its onscreen "remote control" and by using that handy USB port. Yet I found the system klugey. For instance, I have a TV tuner in my PC, but since the Yamaha device bypasses the sound card the tuner resides on, the TV system doesn't work. A spokesman said I could fix the problem with the right adapters...
