Much of this nationalistic fervor arises from what the children have seen firsthand as well as what they have been taught-as Nabil pointed out in the West Bank-so it is not fair to regard them solely as their elders' tools. Also their indoctrination may be indirect. The normal conversation of parents will influence children in any circumstance, and it would be a lot to ask of Palestinian parents that they display a political evenhandedness they do not feel.
