Also jarring is the show’s set, designed by Todd Weekley. A mishmash of wooden furniture, the piles of chairs, tables, and desks strewn about the stage evoke nothing of Revolutionary France, but instead resemble the Dorm Crew storage closet. The most successful props are a few large wooden tumbrels, which provide a versatile playground for the actors as they use the handsome carts to labor, seduce, and persecute. As a perfunctory nod to the French national motto, “liberté,” “égalit?...

Unsurprisingly, the album’s haphazardly culled lyrics often resemble an incongruous mishmash of words that aspire to poetry, but largely remain trite and poorly-culled from the original text. Even if one didn’t know the lyrics were patchworked from a novel, it’s easy to tell that the songs are at least somewhat internally disconnected, as each tune fails to tell a complete story and doesn’t quite form a lyrically unified whole...

Iran's minorities have been susceptible to outside influences, but rarely have they felt strong enough to take on Tehran - which fears that that could change with the chaos at its borders. If, for instance...

...federal regulations are put in place. After all, compared to the relatively simple new rules on the table - insurers wouldn't be able to exclude treatments for pre-existing conditions and would have to sell insurance to anyone who applied for it - many current state insurance regulations are a mishmash of complex formulas and exclusions. "What's been impossible to effectively regulate are these complicated rating rules," says Rick Curtis, president of the Institute for Health Policy Solutions, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization...

...Such cultural mishmash is ripe for parodying. In 2003, author Robert Lanham wrote The Hipster Handbook, trying to codify the rules to hipsterdom, like "You graduated from a liberal arts school whose football team hasn't won a game since the Reagan administration" and "You have one Republican friend who you always describe as being your 'one Republican friend.' " There's also Hipster Bingo and, of course, Look at This F___ing Hipster (the link obviously contains strong language). Chronicling hipsterdom's extremes, the LATFH photo blog was a viral sensation, netting its founder, Joe Mande, a book deal...
