DIED. CHARLES LUCKMAN, 89, entrepreneur and architect who designed Madison Square Garden and Florida's Kennedy Space Center; in Los Angeles. Trained in architecture, Luckman first made his name (and the cover of TIME) selling soap as a sales manager at Pepsodent, and then returned to his first love after commissioning Lever House, one of Manhattan's first glass skyscrapers. DIED. SID LUCKMAN, 81, Chicago Bears Hall of Fame quarterback with a mind as potent as his arm; in North Miami Beach. After joining the Bears in 1939, Luckman perfected the T-formation offense, memorizing 350 plays in the team's repertoire and changing the way the game was played for the next decade.
