Kagemusha is magnificently served by Tatsuya Nakada as Shingen and his double, the thief. Nakada has white, puffed-out sideburns, and capacious sacks beneath his beautiful liquid eyes. As Shingen they convey warehouses of wisdom; as the thief they are the befuddled eyes of a clown. Eventually the two personas merge; so powerful is Shingen's spirit that merely by acting naturally the thief begins to duplicate his actions, almost to think his thoughts. When Shingen's son, Katsuyori, eager to assume his dead father's power by exposing the double, challenges the compulsorily silent double at a large meeting...
...thousand rings round Saturn, icy moons and lakes of liquid nitrogen...
...called gaps may contain several dozen ringlets. Titan, the largest moon in the solar system, appears to be wrapped in a dense atmosphere of nitrogen vapors, rather than methane-the best guess before Voyager-and its surface may be awash in a cold sea of liquid nitrogen. Saturn's entourage of other satellites, until now no more than bright gleams in earthly telescopes, also proliferated-by three -to at least 15. Chunks of ice and rock perhaps dating back to the birth of the solar system 4.6 billion years ago, these moons emerged as distinctive and different, showing scars...
...More than just a sperm bank, it is a repository of fibroblast cells taken from the connective tissue of hundreds of exotic wild animals, ranging from Sumatran tigers to Uganda's pygmy chimps. These cells, which are easier to store and grow than most, are kept in liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196° C ( - 320° F) against the day when technology will be ready to reawaken them. Says San Diego's Benirschke: "We could probably get along all right without the rhino, and we're doing all right without the dodo...
Portables can be quite sophisticated. One unit is not only AM/FM but is equipped with a liquid crystal diode (LCD) digital clock. A separate lithium battery with a service life of one year is used for the clock and three AA pen-light batteries for the radio. The clock is equipped with a beep wake-up alarm that will run for about four minutes after the selected alarm time has been reached and it will then turn off automatically. Unlike analog clocks, the digital in the radio has an AM and PM indicator. The clock has an hour switch, minute...
