There may be a good reason for this, for Marx believed in phrenology Wilhelm Liebknecht, one of the founders of the German Socialist Party, writes in his Memoirs that when he came to London in the 1860s to join Marx's faction, before he was admitted, Pfander--the official party phrenologist--danced, his fingers around his skull.
