...recent change in the arrangement of the shower baths at the Gymnasium remedies what was hitherto a serious fault of the equipment. Formerly the hot water was led from a tank containing water at a boiling temperature, and mixed with water at the same pressure by adjustment at the valves connected with each shower. Caroless turning on of the hot water or increased flow of hot water, due to the shutting off of other valves in the shower-room, frequently led to unpleasant scalding accidents.
