...editorial column is the most entertaining portion of number 7 of the Lampoon. The leader is an amusing apology for a parody on a well known "Journal of Society"; the second, a sarcastic reference to Life's somewhat illogical war attitude. As a whole, however, the issue is but mediocre. A take-off on "Rupert of Hentzau" in its title promises well, but is overdone and rather hard to wade through. The usual "Lispings of Little Lew" also do not come up to expectations...
...game was most exciting throughout and was close up to the fourth inning, when the CRIMSON bunched enough hits to score five runs. After that the Lampoon went to pieces and the CRIMSON scored almost at will. The CRIMSON nine was much superior at the bat, and in fielding made but seven errors to the Lampoon's sixteen. ...current number of the Lampoon is easily up to the standard. The centre page drawing, although evidently intended to be taken seriously is yet very funny from the artist's curious conception of horses and his grotesque style. The best individual picture are a halfpage drawing representing an optical illusion, and two small sketches illustrating rather time worn jokes. Contrary to custom, the long articles are easily the best reading of this number. Deserving of especial mention is a clever take-off on a recent Advocate story, and a pretended unpublished letter written by Li Hung Chang...
