Denver was not a frontier for long. By 1902 it had 37 schools-and its rising school population was beginning to outgrow them. Stately Superintendent Aaron Gove added sewing and cooking to the still rigid curriculum; roughriding Lucius Hallett bulled through a $6,000,000 bond issue to build three new high schools and enlarge ten other buildings; under able Jesse Newlon, teachers finally won a single salary scale.
