...major touchstone is Paul Greengrass's Bourne Ultimatum, surely the most influential action film of the decade. Quantum appropriates Bourne's tilt-a-whirl camera and ADD editing, not to mention the vigorous skirmishes on roofs, in cars and hotel rooms. But the big similarity is in the two films' heroes. James Bond and Jason Bourne are both company spies whom their governments want dead, and both are coping with their girlfriends' violent deaths...

...Your role (as a Pentagon liaison) in your next movie Green Zone is a departure from your two films this year (Genius and Ghost Town). Why did you choose the role? Paul Greengrass asked me to read the book, Imperial Life in the Emerald City, which is kind of just a backdrop for the movie. It's about the early mobile exploitation teams and the soldiers, including Matt [Damon], who go in to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and don't have a lot of luck. ...Paul Greengrass also made United 93, one of the few movies to be made about 9/11. Yeah, that was a big thing for me. United 93's a great example of a story that is so difficult to translate for an audience that already comes in with their own preconceived ideas of how the events occurred...

...loving shot of Statham exercising in his cell, the taut muscles of his upper back pulsing under his flesh like alien tumors. He certainly fits into the film's production design, in the New Brutalist style that borrows the grimy industrial look from Fight Club and rummages through Paul Greengrass' Bourne movies for the attention-deficit editing and ShakyCam dialogue scenes...
