When the going gets weird, as Hunter S. Thompson observed, the weird turn pro. And next year?s race to represent New York in the U.S. Senate seat is shaping up to be one weird puppy. Undeclared candidate Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Tuesday launched his most concerted campaigning tour yet ?- in Little Rock, Ark. As political theater, it gets rave reviews, but the witty jab at carpetbagging has worn a little thin, with Giuliani repeatedly saying things like "I?ve never lived here, I?ve never worked here, I?ve never gone to school here... I guess it would...

...stereotypical aggressive, opinionated, arrogant New York attitude is personified in our mayor. No where else in the world would Rudolph W. Giuliani's chutzpah be tolerated, yet it is precisely what New York City natives love about him. Rudy's no-nonsense attitude and willingness to take a stand, even when that opinion clashes with the generally accepted stance, combined with his deep appreciation and love for the city and its culture make him the perfect mayor...

We stop for lunch, and he puts a $20 bill on the counter, and so do I--one of those postmodern-ethics moments when neither of us can accept the other's hospitality. He gives me half of his deep-dish pizza, having made the better choice. Sure, he's pleased with himself. But unlike...

...Yorkers may recall, accomplished the sport's trifecta by jumping off the Empire State and Chrysler buildings last October, and he achieved a personal high last March when he jumped 110 floors from the top of the World Trade Center. (The unlawful leap irritated New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and for that alone was deemed worthwhile by the citizens.) People seem to take pleasure in BASE jumping in the same way, I suppose, that Romans liked watching gladiators. The potential opportunity to observe a fellow human die at a moment of wild exhilaration, or live through such a moment...
