...atavistic inhumanity as one could imagine. Palestinians, however, were quick to point to the incredible disparity in casualties--more than 100 dead Palestinians versus six dead Israelis--as an outrage. Worse atrocities than the Ramallah lynchings have been committed before in the conflict, on both sides, but never on film. "Morally, we had to retaliate," said Israeli military chief Lieut. General Shaul Mofaz. "It was a supreme commandment even." In preparing his attack, Mofaz worked from a list of 30 possible targets, all facilities of the Palestinian Authority. ...comedy to flourish on new ground (e.g. Bill Murray's wild progression from hedonism to suicide to philanthropy in Groundhog Day). Ramis' mistake with Bedazzled is that he tips his hand to the audience in the set-up of the movie. Earlier this year she dared to bare all on the London stage in The Graduate and was lavishly praised for her acting form, as well as for her physical form, apparently still in fine shape...
...saving grace of the film is Gere, perfectly cast as the masculine yet non-threatening Dr. T. Gere devours this meaty role, bringing an aspect of humanity to a movie populated with caricatures. Yes, this is not exactly a departure from the type of character the actor typically plays. But hey, the man's damn good at what he does. Consider this Gere's honors thesis at the University for Charming Leading Men. Other highlights include Shelly Long as Carolyn, T's plucky assistant, and Tara Reid as the doctor's conspiracy-obsessed daughter (she gives enthusiastic tours...
