...Varsity practice yesterday afternoon consisted of two ten-minute halves, one with the second eleven and one with the Freshmen. In the first half the plays were run off with plenty of snap and the backs and ends especially played hard and fast. The second half showed the 'Varsity playing carelessly and indifferently. The line-up was changed a number of times, most of the changes being made at end and quarter, so that this perhaps unsettled the team as much as anything else...

Instead of a game with the Manual Training School team, as had been expected, yesterday the Freshmen went through practice in tackling and falling on the ball as usual. After this practice and a short drill in punting the two teams lined up and played a short, fast game. During the tackling practice, Ellis, one of the most promising half-backs, was hurt in the ankle. He had just come out after being laid up for several days on account of an injury to his leg, and it is hoped this second injury will not interfere with his playing...

...part of the time devoted to practice yesterday was spent in tackling the dummy. The 'Varsity then lined up with the second eleven for ten minutes. The playing was loose, though fast, the most noticeable fact being a decided falling off in form, on the part of the second. Brown played his poorest game of the season. At full-back, he muffed punts continually, once allowing the 'Varsity to regain the ball on two successive kicks, which brought it from the centre of the field to the 5-yard line. It was virtually through their kicking and Brown's poor...

...interesting sets were between McConnell 1L, and H. Ward 1900, who won the spring tournament. The first two sets were only decided after the hardest kind of a fight, in which McConnell proved himself a cool, accurate player. The deciding set, however, went, 6-0 to Ward, who played fast tennis...
