...Washington, D.C., bureau, Sidey is stepping down. I am glad to report that he will continue to write his column, "The Presidency," for TIME. His replacement as bureau chief is Robert Ajemian, most recently the magazine's national political correspondent. In addition to his column, Sidey will doubtless take on other assignments. Writing, after all, is in his blood. Born to a family of Iowa journalists, he was cleaning presses at the age of ten for the Adair County Free Press, a newspaper his great-grandfather founded and passed along to his father and brother. Recalls Hugh...

...year's budget-Warner-Lambert must insert this statement: "Listerine will not help prevent colds or sore throats or lessen their severity." In the course of its review, which began in 1972, the FTC found that Listerine was no more effective in combatting colds than warm water. Doubtless Warner-Lambert will bury the admission as inconspicuously as possible in ads declaring that Listerine does cure bad breath-another old claim...

Most disillusioned of all may be blacks, whose expectations were sent soaring by Carter's campaign promises. Last week Vernon Jordan, executive director of the Urban League and one of the most influential black spokesmen on economic issues, called again for a domestic Marshall Plan to revitalize distressed cities. But his approach would cost many billions of dollars, which puts him far out of step with Jimmy Carter...

...amount been paid last year, it would have taken a bite out of Kodak's profits of $643.4 million, which it earned on sales of nearly $6 billion. Kodak will doubtless avoid paying anything for years, while it carries appeals to higher courts. But the legal battle stands to cloud the future of a company that has suffered some reverses lately. Kodak has been less than victorious in its battle with Polaroid in the instant-camera market, and Kodak's stock has plunged from a 1973 high of 151¾ to last week's 42⅛. What...
