Perversely Anglophile as ever, Ouseley-Gogarty leaves De Valera's Ireland to visit his old friend, the vicar of Mea Culpa at Waltham Whirling on the Thames. He discovers the vicar's niece Parmenis, who is as rude as she is beautiful.
