...brighter now than they did a few weeks ago. Then it was announced in the Boston papers that "the university eight consisted of six sophomores." Yesterday, Hudgens, '84, one of the strongest men in the 'Varsity last spring, signified his intention of becoming a candidate for this year's crew. The candidates who are now practising daily in the gymnasium are as follows: Belshaw, Sawyer, Cabot, Hammond (captain), Clark, Hudgens, Chalfant and Curtis. ...sincerest thanks are due from the university to the men who are at present training for the crew. They bring us new hope, and every possible encouragement should be given them, and their sacrifices for Alma Mater should be fully appreciated and recognized. No better material has been at hand for years, and we have every reason to hope for victory in the race to take place next summer...
