George Gordon of Greenwich, Conn., has been called to the pastorship of the Old South Church, Boston - one of the 'softest,' as it is one of the most historical, pulpits in the United States. The salary is $8000 a year and parsonage. Mr. Gordon is a Scotchman, thirty years old, and unmarried. He worked his way through Harvard, overcoming many obstacles incident to poverty, and graduated with high honors. President Eliot speaks of him as one of the most remarkable graduates for many years...
