This year G. Wallace Woodworth, conductor of the College's Club, announced a 21-concert schedule which is no more feat in the face of tightening OPA orders on large group transportation. In spite of the gas shortage, the Club can boast of a weekend trip over April 2 that will include concerts at Pembroke, Sarab Lawrence College, plus a visit to Carnegie with Dr. Serge Koussevitsky and his Boston Symphony Orchestra...

After the Symphony's union adjustment early this year, it was hoped and expected that more first rate soloists and a few guest conductors might appear out of the blue. To date there have been but three instrumental guest soloists, all pianists, and only one guest conductor, George Szell, none of whom have noticeably shaken the foundations of the hall. Perhaps the orchestra is glancing uneasily in the direction of its brethren in Carnegie Hall who went to the other extreme and are now paying the penalty...

...Society stood firmly behind Rodzinski, whose real reasons were musicianly: the Orchestra has had no dominating conductor since Toscanini left in 1936. Some of the musicians were as arrogant as some of the guest conductors, which is saying a lot. Rodzinski wanted an orchestra, not a collection of prima donnas...
