...branch into solo projects on other labels. Every few years the group pulls together for an album, thus raising each member's visibility and bolstering the branding strength of Wu-Tang, Inc. It then launches a new crop of Wu-branded products. The cycle repeats. It resembles a concept called the virtual corporation, in which a company maintains just a small core and outsources everything else. During a three-year hiatus after their 1997 record-setting double album Wu-Tang Forever, the group's Wu-Wear clothing line hit $15 million in annual sales, a new Wu comic-book line...
...given the pretentious delivery that is reminiscent of a bad English lecture. Yet the time warp does not seem out of place in the context of the play, nor is the scene entirely without purpose. Janiak, despite the facade, reminds the audience that homosexuality did not exist as a concept before 1890 and also explains the failure of Wilde as a champion of gay rights...
...next played Anton Webern's Vier Stcke, op. 7, a work the composer wrote in 1910 under the influence of his teacher, Schoenberg. A portrait of a doll leg by David Levinthal, who takes large-format Polaroids of collectable fetish dolls, is included. A similar interest in surrogate female forms is found in Chris Komater's piece "Turner" (a reference to the film star Lana Turner...
