Through it all, Bush himself was strangely absent, even when he was in full view. Is this merely a show of sagacious dissent, to derail charges of railroading, or is there real dissension in the ranks? Cheney has perfected the shrug on this issue, but he might consider a loud plea for the local folks to wait a week - the last thing Bush needs right now is another reason to look illegitimate.
