...attempt to bring some stability to markets, the SEC announced a ban on naked short selling, the aggressive practice of betting on a stock's fall without first borrowing shares. But that did nothing to quell widespread speculation about which struggling financial institution would be the next to disappear. Washington Mutual, the U.S.'s largest thrift, put itself up for auction, and Wells Fargo and Citigroup might be interested, according to reports. Morgan Stanley appeared to be on the table too. ...Term for Tea? In Marion Hume's otherwise interesting article on tea tourism, a photograph of a table set for tea bears the caption, "A table is prepared for high tea" [Sept. 15]. The photo clearly shows a table set for afternoon tea. High tea is a British term for an entirely different meal that includes cold meats, salads and much heartier fare and which is served around 6 p.m. in lieu of dinner. "We will lose two or three more generations," says Geert Cappelaere, UNICEF's representative in Freetown. "But the core message is one of hope...

She left the service to became a real estate lawyer before dipping into politics in 1999. Following her election to the Knesset, she became a protege of Ariel...
