None the less, Wynken, Blynken and Nod and another lullaby, Little Boy Blue, were poetic masterpieces. And Eugene Field, the gaunt man who wrote them, put such a lyric fluency into whatever he wrote that he became known as "the children's laureate." He is best remembered as that today.
