...Because of blocking stuff, you still have large clumps of type of people in each House,” Andrew Y. Badger ’12 acknowledged. “But I’m on the football team, and I’m the only football player in the whole House...

...slight affair: three scenes, four characters, one unnecessary intermission. It opens with two principals of a law firm, one white (James Spader) and one black (David Alan Grier), quizzing a prospective client (Richard Thomas) who has been charged with raping a young black woman. In Scene 1 the lawyers badger him mercilessly, scoffing at his claims of innocence, dismissing his naive hopes that the legal system might exonerate him. By Scene 2, however, the white lawyer has done a nifty 180 (and managed to negate virtually all of his Scene 1 pontificating) by passionately arguing for the man's innocence...

...That's not the only inside joke likely to go over the heads of small Fox fans. Badger (Bill Murray) is no longer just a neighbor, but a lawyer who gives advice on mortgages. Mrs. Fox, so sweetly supportive of her partner in the book - it is she who dubs him "fantastic" - is now a dubious sort who limits all praise and wields a sharp claw. Chu has already created a miniflap by telling reporters it wasn't his job to badger OPEC about oil prices, and he has struggled to explain why he once called coal a "nightmare." Several of his scientific initiatives have stalled on Capitol Hill, victims of lackluster salesmanship. He got his unofficial welcome to politics in February, during a tour of the University of Pennsylvania's operations facility, when a snippy Vice President Joe Biden...

...problem: The report is not good news for Wisconsin. Excluding the District of Columbia, the Badger State had the nation's largest achievement gap in three of four areas: fourth- and eighth-grade reading as well as fourth-grade math. As in many Northern and Midwestern states, Wisconsin's white students generally perform well, providing a stark contrast to its underperforming minorities. Conversely, the small achievement gap in places like West Virginia (with a racial divide of just 13 points in fourth-grade reading) can prove a mixed blessing, as it often indicates that white students are missing the mark...
