...Israelis, bringing back their captured warriors from the battlefield is a huge emotional issue; the prime minister knows only too well that Israelis never forgave the government in 1986 for haggling too much with kidnappers holding airman Ron Arad. This angered his captors, negotiations broke down and Arad was never found...
...most--difficult companies out there to forecast," says Bear Stearns analyst Glen Reid. In late May, just as Marvel kicked off what may be the greatest test of its powers yet--a slate of 10 independently financed films--the firm stunned investors and Hollywood alike by announcing that Avi Arad, the man behind the Spider-Man and X-Men film franchises, would leave to start his own production company. Other names thrown out include Disney, which owns a large chunk of the Marvel library, and even TIME's parent, Time Warner, which owns Marvel rival DC Comics...

One wing is dominated by a Ron Arad silver staircase called The Wave. Inside, 2,500 workers?50% of whom are second-generation employees?turn out an average of 15,000 shoes a day. Their kids go to nursery school on the premises, and the workers eat freshly cooked meals in the cafeteria...
