Harvard's playing showed the best team work of this year. Every man got into the play, and the linemen were especially effective in helping the runners along. The backs kept their feet remarkably well and often dragged almost the entire Carlisle team with them several yards. The interference on end runs was effective, and was closely followed by the backs, but the excellent work of Carlisle's ends prevented long end gains. The interference which formed for Kernan's 50 yard run was the best this season. Harvard, however, had many faults which would have resulted seriously against...
...hundred men took part in the first cross country run of the season, held yesterday afternoon. The run started from the Locker Building down Harvard street, along Western avenue, and back by the Parkway, in all about three miles. As the run was only for preliminary practice, the men kept together and made no attempt at fast time...
...this region, and the three rivers, the Charles, Mystic and Neponset, which cut through it. The most characteristic features of the views are the very numerous glacial ponds, the narrow, open valleys, the small rock-broken hills and the broad level salt marshes. Beautiful views are to be obtained along the coast at all seasons of the year. No better illustration of sand beach with its rollers can be found than Revere Beach, easily accessible by the narrow gauge railway from Boston. Here in winter, after storms the scenes are very impressive, the snow being banked up by the waves...
About Ispwich the marshes furnish views beautiful in their breadth and simplicity; nearer Cambridge, as in Waverly, Woburn, the Middlesex Fells, and in the valley of the Mystic there are many scenes of great attractiveness. The landscape views of this region are mostly small in effect. It is only along the coast, on the marshes and on the hills, as in the Blue Hills, that we find breadth and largeness of view...
...second set he was at his best, finally winning out by his sharp volleying and well directed kills. Leonard played a less brilliant game at the net, but was surer, seldom allowing Bishop to pass him. His lobs from the back court fell generally too short, but his drives along the side lines and low ground strokes from the base line were speedy and accurate, and were very effective against Bishop's net game. In winning the tournament Leonard also gets the University championship, as E. R. Marvin '99, last year's champion, is no longer in College...
