What Randi recognized much earlier was that magic was sometimes misused. Hearing about miraculous happenings in local spiritualist churches, he decided to see for himself. Disaster. Watching the preacher divine the contents of sealed envelopes handed him by his parishioners, Randi, then 15, was outraged. "He was using the old 'one-ahead' method," Randi explains, still indignant. Striding to the pulpit, he fished one of the opened envelopes out of a wastebasket and accused the preacher of cheating. An uproar followed, and Randi was arrested for disturbing a religious meeting. At the police station, he vowed that he would someday...

Caddyshack (Science Center C, Harvard) is something of a latter-day comedy classic, and unquestionably the best movie ever made about golf. The cast--including spiritualist Bill Murray, the ever-anal Ted Knight, and Rodney Danger-field--more than make up for the lame and tedious teen-love subplot. And the turd-in-the-swimming pool scene will undoubtedly serve as a humour benchmark for years to come...

She jots down passages at odd hours, even between takes on a movie set. Her catch-as-catch...

Yet that blue world of twining blossoms-Runge's amaryllises and lilies are the ancestors of art nouveau-of genii and weird, pale cherubs is so exquisitely designed and rendered with such pantheistic conviction that it attains the force of religious art. The spiritualist urge lasted far into the 19th century. Its last major bearer was Arnold Böcklin-a Swiss, but included in this show by adoption, as it were. Böcklin's painting of the Island of the Dead, 1880, had every reason to survive: theatrical...

...Harvard graduate (in sociology), Seaga, 50, spent several years in a rural part of Jamaica studying child development and also wrote a book on the island's spiritualist cults. At the age of 29 he became the youngest member of the legislature, where at the time he was considered more leftist than Manley. He held Cabinet posts in both the Labor governments that ruled from 1962 to 1972; as Finance Minister he earned a reputation as a tough administrator, especially in plugging tax loopholes. He and his wife Mitsy, a former Miss Jamaica, have three children...
