Died. Dr. Peyton Rous, 90, U.S. cancer researcher and virologist, who in 1911 first proved the existence of virus-induced cancer in animals; of cancer; in Manhattan. Though dismissed as "utter nonsense" at the time, Rous' discovery of a virus-transmissible cancer (sarcoma) was eventually accepted as a most promising lead in cancer research.
