...best feature of the Christmas Lampoon lies in its illustrations, which are exceptionally good. A picture of the Boston coach arriving in Cambridge on Christmas Day fifty years ago, and the centre page drawing by C. M. Bill '00 are the best of these. The chief fault with the short stories and jokes is that they are based upon affairs which have no direct connection with the College. ...number of the Lampoon which will appear this evening is not up to the standard of the last issue, but, nevertheless, it contains some very good pieces. It is perhaps too reminiscent of football. The "By the Way," which is better than usual, and the centre page, a well executed and fitting sequel to the centre page of the "Football Number," express very adequately the present dissatisfaction in regard to football. ...current number of the Lampoon, which is devoted to football, has more wit and originality than any preceding number this year. But it is prevented from being uniformly excellent by the pointless and offensive looking blot which is entitled "A short guide to Harvard University." The editorials are perhaps the best literary contributions, although the Irishman's point of view in "McGinnis at the Yale game," an imitation of Mr. Dooley, is amusing and ends pointedly. The editorial on the distribution of Yale game tickets lacks the overdone tone of previous ones and is timely, but might be improved...
...cover picture and the centre page are well executed suggestions and the latter stands well alone without the appended remarks. But the small drawing which so concisely -- we might say but too truthfully--pictures the present football ticket situation is by far the best item in the current Lampoon...
...chief of the College papers (some of whom spend more hours in working on College matters than almost any other undergraduates) and the members of the debating teams, about the encouragement of which we cant so much. Would the graduate manager maintain that the president of even the Lampoon had not a better right to ticket privileges than a substitute on the Freshman squad? I cannot see how he could, especially since it is known that Boston speculators have been selling tickets in the middle section since last Friday...
