With earnings from his share in his family's international mining interests (Alaskan copper, Chilean nitrate, Bolivian tin), Solomon donated millions to charity (mostly anonymously), in 1947 gave some $4,000,000 to establish the fourth of the famed Guggenheim foundations† which supports Manhattan's avant-garde Museum of Non-Objective Painting...
