...parents say that 10 years ago the FBI told them it was no longer pursuing Soliah. But California still wanted her. The recent dip in crime allowed the L.A.P.D.. to reassign officers to unsolved cases, and Lieut. Tom King, 50, whose father Mervin had led the firefight against the S.L.A., took a fresh look at Soliah's and Kilgore's. ...gaudy 100-0 passage of the precooked trial blueprint. Now set to start at 1 p.m. (ET) Thursday, the process has been apportioned rather neatly: 24 hours of Senate floor time each for the House managers and the President, and 16 hours for senators' questions. "This clash is part of a struggle for dominance in the Islamic world," says TIME correspondent Johanna McGeary. Shiite Iran wants the Sunni Taliban to hand over members who murdered eight Iranian diplomats earlier this year. It also accuses the Taliban of killing Shiite civilians inside Afghanistan, and has massed 200,000 troops on the border to underscore...

South Korean troops then fired about 200 warning shots into the air after the northern troops ignored the warning. A direct firefight ensued as the North Korean troops fired at the southern soldiers with rifles followed by mortar rounds and artillery. The battle lasted about 45 minutes. The incident couldn't have come at a worse time. In just three weeks, the two sides, along with the United States and China...
