...script and toned it down, both in political implication and in social description. As the movie proceeds one can see the effect which could have resulted from the blending of abject misery with bitter humor. There are flashes of what must have been really fine pathos on older, flickering, brownish black-and-white film. Blind street singers grind out a Weill-ish ballad, one playing a hand organ, the other tapping a drum with sticks taped to his elbows. A dying consumptive girl cries out in fear of the whiteness of the window in the early twilight. But, even though...

...unlikely sort of hero, a brownish-haired little (about 5 ft. 5 in.) Scot with a murderous temper, the boudoir morals of a tomcat, and a colossal ego. He toadied to his superiors, fought with his peers, and would never give credit to his juniors when he could claim it for himself. Ferial is a chestnut-haired beauty with brownish-green eyes, a slender waist and notable bosom. Though he already has four wives* and upwards of 80 concubines, Saud, according to a witness, was "visibly staggered." Soon Ferial's father was approached to find out if she was available for marriage. When the King flew back to Saudi Arabia a few days later, he took along pictures of Ferial...
