...morning for Homi K. Bhabha, at around 5:30 or 6 a.m. He writes his lectures and works until 7 a.m. or so, when he’ll take Django, his Welsh Springer Spaniel, for a walk around the neighborhood. Around 8 a.m., he shares a light breakfast of Darjeeling tea and fresh fruit with his wife. He speaks with his assistant around 9 a.m. to discuss his schedule for the day, then drives to school, although he admits he should walk. The evening is usually dedicated to a Humanities Center event, where Bhabha participates as a moderator or speaker...

But Kirkland's kitchen is one of the largest and easiest to navigate, with entrees and salad bar set off in different rooms. The House's grill chefs, once known for their superb breakfast omelets (rest in peace, hot breakfast), still serve up great greasy items for the other two meals of the day. After all, while last year’s economic downturn may have palpably affected the Harvard undergraduate experience in the more noticeable currency of decreased funding for student initiatives, grants, and, of course, hot breakfast, it seems to have also amplified a peculiar, age-old tendency among the more well-moneyed of our peers. You can probably guess which one it is that I’m referring to—the apparent obligation to demonstrate a visible lack of immunity from economic hardship, when such is clearly not the case...
Finally, we find it encouraging that an expression of strong student opinion has not gone unheard by the UC. Hot breakfast was a key issue during the presidential and vice presidential campaigns earlier this year, and the current report is clearly a response to undergraduate demand. When it comes to hot breakfast, the UC seems to be fulfilling its role by bringing student concerns to the administration. In light of this, we encourage students to raise their voices with similar force in the future and hope that the UC continues to listen...
