Durno's hockey career in the nets started when he was eight. After six years in the Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget leagues, Bruce joined the Stanford Junior B Bruins, a farm team owned by the Boston Bruins. He went on to play for a Junior A team also in the Bruins farm system. In Junior A hockey Bruce was starting goalie against the likes of Derek Sanderson, Tom Webster, and Bobby Orr--all of whom are now playing for the Bruins...

...Godard has overemphasized polemic at the cost of the cast. In Weekend, for example, windy politics fray some of the film's visionary power. But in Pierrot Le Fou Godard shows that he can coax fine actors into superlative performances. Belmondo earns his lunatic (fou) sobriquet; his quirky bantam strut and broken-nosed banter are only a gasp away from Breathless. Simplistic to the point of demagoguery, his rhetoric is not so much overtly racist as atavistic. His speeches are a scattershot us-folks compendium of conservative complaints against the Federal Government, both major parties, bums, beatniks and Vietniks, rioters (meaning Negroes), intellectuals and Communists. With bantam-cock posture and frequent billingsgate phrases, he portentously appeals to patriotism, law and order, individual liberty, states' rights and the safety of the past. He is a pugnacious orator-a kind of ham-hock Goldwater-and one of the most effective stump speakers of the 1968 campaign...

...toilet training through masturbation and on to intercourse, intercourse, intercourse, all told in the form of monologues delivered by a Jewish boy to his psychoanalyst. With that kind of copy and more to come, no wonder Random House has given Roth a $250,000 advance for the book and Bantam $350,000 for paperback rights. With movies, foreign translation and the rest, poor Portnoy ought to come off the couch with something like $1,000,000-which should just about pay the psychiatrist...
