Parke played a good all around game, his only weak point being his inability to handle lobs when at the net. His places both from the net and from the backcourt were very accurate. He also had a swift service which his opponent was unable to return effectively...

Ingraham won his match with Pierpont after losing the first set, 6-1. In the first set Ingraham played a backcourt game, but in the next two sets he ran to the net at every opportunity and won rather easily. Pierpont's lobs were short and ineffective. Parke's victory over Holt was rather unexpected. He played a very fast game, out-classing Holt at every point. He did especially good work at the net and his back-hand strokes were remarkably swift and accurate. Holt was somewhat handicapped by having to use a new racket. The summary of yesterday...
