Hanford, the new Yardling mentor, will replace Norman D. Blotner '40, who decided last week to leave Law School and join the Navy. The new coach, the son of Dean A. Chester Hanford, was the star goalie for three years while in college in soccer, hockey, and lacrosse.
Coach Rene Peroy's Freshmen fencers got off on the wrong foot Saturday afternoon, dropping a 6 to 3 decision to the Exeter foilsmen in their opening meet in the Indoor Athletic Building. For the Exonians, it was the first victory over a Yardling outfit in recent years.
The record of the games played has shown that the Yardling quintet has better results when it is behind at the half. In the only game that the team has led at half-time, the Exeter game, the Crimson came out on the short end of the score.
