...unfortunate fact that in these mercenary days there occasionally appear strong plays that have "gone wrong." "Outcast," which had its Boston premier at the Hollis Theatre last night, is just such a play. It should have ended at the close of the third act, but, evident deference to the box office, which is still apt to insist that a play should end happily, resulted in a fourth act of stereotyped reconciliation and happy conclusion. That the play was not ruined by the anti-climax in this act, is proof prositive that it is a drama of exceptional power...

The editors as well as the authors are to blame for such mistakes as "Charles Dicken's reputation," "a vastly higher strata," the wrong use of "formula" on page 26, and the sudden change of a character's name from Josh to Amos on page 29. Even if the material handed in afforded no fiction with the snap we are accustomed to expect in Advocate stories, care should be taken to avoid such examples of slovenliness...
...glum seriousness to see a play, if one wants to imbibe the practical philosophy of a deep thinker, if one wants anything else but to hear well-spiced dialogue for its own sake or for the sake of the whims of its author, "Androcles and the Lion" is the wrong thing to see.
