...director, Alejandro Amenbar (The Others), imagines dream escapes for Ramn, wondrous flights in which he soars through the skies while operatic arias play. On the other hand, the film, based on a true story, is always firmly grounded in reality. Ramn is tended by his brother's family and a local woman named Rosa (Lola Dueas), who finds a focus for her messy life when she, too, falls in love with him. All of them keep reminding us that the big life-and-death questions this movie raises--and very sensibly answers--have human dimensions...
